Lawn Care Calendar |
| January |
| Clear away any leaves or twigs that may have
fallen, otherwise keep off the lawn. Keep an eye out for any fungal diseases;
treat with a suitable fungicide. |
| February |
| Remove any worm casts that may appear this month
by brushing. |
| March |
| Remove all debris from the lawn prior to first
cut. Cut the grass 2 or 3 times this month only light cutting is required. |
| April |
| Continue to mow as grass begins to grow faster
never cutting more than a third of the height of the grass off per cut.
Rake any dead grass, leaves or moss out of the lawn. Apply a suitable spring
fertilizer. Treat any lawn weeds present with a lawn weed killer. Aerate
lawn/compacted areas with fork or motorized aerator. Overseed any bare/thin
areas of lawn with a good quality amenity seed mixture. |
| May |
| Remove worm casts prior to mowing. Mow grass
regularly as growth increases slowly reducing height to 15mm from 20mm. |
| June |
| Treat any weeds still present in lawn, (but
not during dry spells of weather). Mow as required raising the height of
cut during dry spells. Irrigate if drought conditions are present. Trim
lawn edges. |
| July |
| Apply a summer fertiliser but not during dry
spells. Mow and edge lawn regularly. Irrigate lawn if required. |
| August |
| Continue
to mow. Water as required. |
| September |
| Remove
worm casts prior to mowing. Decrease mowing frequency as grass growth
slows down. Check for the presence of any disease. |
| October |

Scarify/rake
all dead grass or moss that has built up over the summer months removing
all material. Aerate lawn as carried out in spring. Control any weeds
that are present. Apply a top dressing of a sandy loam soil to level
out any areas. Apply autumn fertilizer. Overseed bare areas of the lawn
with a quality seed mix as before. Reduce mowing frequency raising the
height of cut from 25mm to 20mm. |
